The CLB Academy Spelling Bee Competition 2017 wrapped up last weekend with the grand finale at The Landmark Event Centre, Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos. The month long event featured over 75 schools and over 400 participants from Lagos and environs in attendance.
The Grand Finale featured a fresh round of the primary category and the A-Level category, 50 finalists from all categories (Primary School, Junior School, Senior School, and A-Level category) competed amongst themselves after which four winners emerged.
The event was hosted by Onoge Tega Ben (OTB) of Naija 102.7 FM and had a colorful red carpet backed up by strong media presence with participants from The Ambassadors College, Future Kids School, Royal Regency School, Straitgate College, Dansol High School, Corona Schools, Pampers Private School, Alaka, The Foreshore School Ikoyi, First Quiver School, Meadow Hall School, Heritage House School, Attwool School, Jesilo School, Rainbow College, Debiruss College, Greensprings School, Greensprings Academy, Oxbridge Tutorial College, School Administrators, Teachers, Parents, Guardians, Well Wishers and friends of the participants.
The event also had in attendance celebrities and top personalities such as the DJ Humility, Lolo1 a.k.a Adaku of Jenifas Diary, Sabina Umoren of Naija 102.7 FM, Soma of Big Brother Naija, Kid Model Diana Egwuatu, The world famous Olajumoke Orisaguna, Ms. Victoria Nkong; CEO Qtaby Events, Ms. Pai Gamde; Acting Head; Corporate Affairs, Nigerian Stock Exchange, Mr. Akanimo Akpabio, Human Resource Professional, Nigerian Stock Exchange amongst others.
The Jury for the Grand Finale were; Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo; Educationist, Chief Executive, Leading Learning Ltd, Dr. Tunji Abimbola; Education Consultant, Member Governing Board and Acting Principal, Day Waterman College, Mr. Oladapo Oyewumi; CEO/Founder Centre for Law & Business, Omotunde Adebowale – David a.k.a Lolo1 of Wazobia, Dr. Mrs. Blessing Ntamu; Lecturer, Author & Radio Host, CRBC Calabar.
The audience enjoyed a thrilling performance from the Ex BB Naija Housemate Soma. The event progressed with Nigeria’s modern Cinderella Olajumoke Orisaguna giving a short speech on the value of education as she reminisced and wished she had such a wonderful opportunity and platform such as the CLB Academy Spelling Bee Competition while growing up. She however thanked God for the new generation and the wonderful opportunity presented to them. She also used the medium to launch her campaign to EDUCATE A CHILD TODAY. She was joined on the stage by the famous and beautiful Nigerian Kid model Diana Egwuatu and Ms. Victoria Nkong, CEO Qtaby Events.
The event was filled with interesting activities as the finalists began to spell words given to them by the pronouncer Dr. Mrs. Blessing Ntamu. At the end of a tough duel amongst the finalists, overall winners emerged from the following categories;
- Mosopefoluwa Ayeni (Corona Schools, Ikoyi) – Winner; Primary School
- Eshiotse Itemuagbor (Rainbow College Day, Surulere) – Winner; Junior School Category
- Olabisi Bello (Dansol High School) – Winner; Senior School Category
- Serena Dokubo (Oxbridge Tutorial College) – Winner; A-Level Category
Finalists while being interviewed expressed how they felt about the competition. They were grateful for the opportunity to showcase their prowess, and for many it had been a learning process and one through which several new words were added to their vocabulary. The participants also expressed their gratitude first to God and also to the organizing body of the CLB Academy Spelling Bee Competition, and finally to their teachers and tutors who had prepared them for the competition.
In addition to the individual prizes they have won, the winners were also awarded a N50, 000 shopping voucher from SchoolKits, presented by Mr. Ope Karim; Head Marketing & Sales SchoolKits and N50,000 shopping voucher from Laterna Books Ventures presented by Mr Oladapo Oyewumi.
The event ended with the presentation of Certificate of Participation to all finalists from all categories while the winners were celebrated.
